Role of Consultation in Equality

  • Ensures you stay in touch with stakeholder’s views (staff, service users, funders, partners, the wider community)
  • Helps stakeholders to feel involved in shaping your services
  • Highlights issues which you might not think / be aware of
  • Helps you to understand barriers to accessing services or employment opportunities
  • Provides opportunity to network / build relationships with others
  • Supports mainstreaming and Equality Impact Assessment processes

To support mainstreaming and Equality Impact Assessment processes, organisations can:

Consult stakeholders – ask them for their views and feedback action taken as a result

Involve stakeholders – Take action in partnership with them or create a process for acting on their views

Engage stakeholders – Create a more formal process for them to feed their views into your decision making structures on an ongoing basis
