The Mainstreaming Equalities Organisational Development Programme has a strong emphasis on organisations taking action to promote best practice on equality. Effective equality action planning is one of the best tools that can be used to mainstream equality. Whether through a standalone equality action plan for the organisation, or through standard strategic and work planning, setting specific actions on equality for individuals to carry out is essential if we want to create change in our organisations.

- Equality Impact Assessment
- Access Audits
- Knowledge of equality law
- Equalities monitoring
In order to be effective, actions should ideally be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. It’s also important to put processes in place to review the outcomes of those actions.
