Equality Responsibilities

In your organisation, everyone has some degree of responsibility for complying with equality law and promoting good practice. For example:

Governing Body / Board Members

  • Ensure own individual practice is within the law / best practice and to follow organisations policies
  • Ensure governance of the organisation is within the law / following best practice
  • Strategic responsibility for ensuring that whole organisation is within the law / following best practice
  • Responsible for setting organisations policies & ethos of organisation
  • Leadership by example

Chief Executive

  • Operational responsibility for ensuring that whole organisation to ensure organisation is within the law / following best practice
  • Individual responsibility to keep within the law / best practice and to follow organisations policies
  • Responsible for reporting to governing body on implementation of policies and all equalities & human rights issues
  • Responsible for implementing organisations policies & ethos
  • Leadership by example

Staff

  • Individual responsibility to keep within the law / best practice and to follow organisations policies & ethos

Volunteers

  • Individual responsibility to keep within the law / best practice and to follow organisations policies & ethos

Service users

  • Individual responsibility to keep within the law and to respect others

Contractors

  •  Have their own responsibility to keep within the law / best practice and may have their own organisational policies & ethos
  • Contractual responsibility to keep within the law / best practice and to follow organisation’s policies / ethos (assuming that the organisation specifies this in the contract)

Funders

  • Have their own responsibility to keep within the law / best practice and will have their own organisational policies / ethos which they may ask funded organisations to comply with
